Environmental Science Workshop

Hands-on Activities

Program Description

The workshop focuses on demonstrating activities to teachers about real world environmental topics.  These activities are provided in an Environmental Resource Guide (ERG), Air Quality Series.  The guide contains approximately 15 lessons with clearly stated educational objectives, background information, preparation instructions, hands-on activities and extension activities which are designed to be integrated with general science, language arts, math, social studies and art curricula.

The Air Quality Series explores the impact of air pollution in our atmosphere, what causes air pollution, and how air pollution affects people, wildlife and the environment.

Participants will receive a copy of the award-winning Environmental Resource Guide ($30 value).

The ERG’s are available in different grade level series including K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12.  The workshop will present lessons from the 6-8 grade level series, however, teachers from all grade levels are encouraged to attend. Be sure to indicate on the registration form the grade level in which you wish to receive your ERG guide book.

This workshop meets the requirements for Learning Standards for Mathematics, Science and Technology.

Presenters

The presenters are from the Niagara Frontier Section of the Air and Waste Management Association (NFS-AWMA) which is a non-profit organization for people involved in the environmental profession.  Presenters come from local universities, NYS DEC, local industries, and environmental consulting companies.  The NFS-AWMA will be awarding a single $100 grant during the workshop.  The grant is to be used to purchase environmental learning tools for the classroom or be used in another way to promote environmental awareness to the students.
